SHAPES OF TIME

Fredi Brodmann was born in Vienna. Studied graphic design and Illustration. After graduating he worked in advertising and media and spent some time in the US from 1979 to 1980 taking work shops for cartoon and illustration at SVA. 1980 moved to Munich and became a free lance cartoonist for newspapers, television and magazines and authored many cartoon books.1985, while still living in Munich he got into the watch business. Always wanting to become a car designer, creating watches somehow offered an opportunity to get close to the engineering aspect of cars again. Watch Me by A. Brodmann, which actually still related more to his cartoonist head, was the first signature watch collection launched. The concept was based on making fun of time. The collection became an immediate success in Germany and UK and was sold for many years. It also opened doors to the US. 1987 Fredi was finally ready to move to New York and invented Segments, the first identity watch for Ventura Design on Time. Motivated by its great impact in the market he engaged himself in the marketing and promotion of that company for many years. After that he designed Timepieces again for Ventura and won several awards - among others also the prestigeous Design Plus Award at the Ambiente/Frankfurt for concept and packaging.

In 1992 he started his own watch brand, Parallel Worlds, with another signature watch, The Fish, an ergonomically shaped form inspired by water animals, Rolex and Hamilton. During that period his watch design studio, Design Knowledge Int’l also developed watch collections for many international brands. Among others for Callahan Int’l. which is now owned by Timex. One day - about thirteen years ago - Fredi received a call from Berj Terzian who came referred by Timex. They met right away to discuss a special time concept Berj had invented: quadtec®. The rest is history. “The digital display idea simulating analog time keeping was so different and cool and made so much sense that he had to get involved in the further development. “Digital for the first time in ages had a real innovation!”

Today, after over twenty years of designing watches for the industry Fredi is very proud to have been instrumental in the development of a true invention and looks forward to the initiation of next generations of quadtec® that are currently on the drawing board and will be ready in 2009 for the international lobby of individualists among watch collectors.

BERJ TERZIAN

Equitime, Inc. was founded by Berj Terzian, its President and CEO. Berj was born in Manhattan from parents who married and immigrated to New York from the South of France in 1930. Berj was found to have musical talent and began piano lessons at age 5. After grade school, he was admitted to the High School of Music & Art, graduated in 1949 and became a professional performer on the piano, organ and bassoon.

In 1951, he was inducted into the US Army and sent to the Korean War where he served until his honorable discharge in November 1953. Having experienced the carnage of war and, upon his return, the premature passing away of his 20-year-old fiance, Berj turned away from music and began his college education. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and mathematics, worked for two years in a Mobil oil laboratory, resigned and entered law school from which he received a LLB degree in 1962. He was admitted to the New York Bar that year and began his career as a trial lawyer, specializing in intellectual Property Law, i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights and related trade and industry issues.

In 1976, Berj conceived the basic concept of Quadtec, digital time-analog motion, and began shopping it to the world's watch industry, without success. He ended his law career in 2004, met his partner Fredi Brodmann, and in 2004 they began developing the Quadtec watch with the aid of Asian manufacturers. The product became available in 2006 and was first introduced to the watch industry at JCK Las Vegas and BASELWORLD 2007.
